"A Picture of Perfection in the Heart of the Highlands"
Our family opened Portnellan nearly 30 years ago and we have often said that the views come with a money back guarantee, so confident are we in the spectacular scenes of either mountain, loch or glen in every direction you look, every window you gaze through. The peace and tranquillity is all around you whether you choose to watch the playful birds in the trees and bird feeders all around the estate, listen to the roar of Ben More burn that runs nearby, ramble the numerous mountains in your back garden or explore the loch and river on a boat or canoe there is something for everyone to enjoy and take home as a fond memory.
The properties vary in size from 1 to 4 bedrooms and are all either 4 or 5 star graded by VISITSCOTLAND. From our specifically designed large one bedroom 4 star properties perfect for two's, through to our Ghillies which hosts the ultimate in 5 star self catering luxury with 3 large bedrooms, 3 ensuite bathrooms, sauna and spa bath. Whatever the number of people in your party there is a property at Portnellan for you.
All properties have adjacent private parking, wide open grassy areas and either a terrace or balcony with garden furniture and gas BBQ. Inside the properties is no exception with tastefully furnished and extreme comfort paramount. Being a family business we have never wanted our accommodation any less comfortable than what we would expect when we go on holiday. Large double beds, LCD TV with SKY package. Blu Ray DVD, Wi-Fi, Nintendo Wii, fitted kitchens, dishwasher, washing machine/tumble dryer, oven, hob, all Royal Doulton crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. There are even sandwich toasters and Senseo coffee machines. Ensuite bathrooms with four piece bathroom suites, some with sauna and spa bath. Power showers, luxury Scottish toiletries, towels, slippers and bathrobes.
Short walks from your lodge are 2 lochs (Loch Luibhair and Loch Dochart) and an adjoining river offering 5 miles of game fishing. A wee island on Loch Dochart where Eilean Dochart castle ruin is situated. The lochs, castle and river can be explored by the free use of the estate kayaks, Canadian canoes and rowing boats. There is also free use of bicycles. On the estate there is a visitor's centre offering you free use of DVDs, local maps and information, walks in the area, board games and magazines. There is a small essentials shop on site.
Once here at Portnellan you will marvel at its location. The 'Centre of Everywhere but the Middle of Nowhere' is the best way to describe Portnellan's location. The breath taking countryside steeped in Scottish History and Heritage but the accessibility to other outdoor activities, visitor attractions, castles, museums, galleries, distilleries, restaurants, pubs and much more. Quaint villages, our bustling towns and historical cities. Scotland is steeped in History, from the Picts and Caledonians to the invasion of the Scots from Ireland. The battles with the 'Viking hoards' and the struggle for independence of state and church, to the present day Parliament in Edinburgh. Our Poets and writers, engineers and scientists all take their place in our history. The towns of Oban, Fort William, Perth, Pitlochry and Stirling are all approximately 1 hour's drive whilst Edinburgh and Glasgow are approximately 1.5 hours.
Crianlarich can be reached by road, rail, sea or air with ease. Guests often comment on how nice it is to drive the roads in Scotland. Crianlarich railway station offers a regular direct service to Oban, Fort William and Glasgow including the famous Caledonian overnight sleeper that runs from London Euston direct to Crianlarich nightly. Ferry travel from Ijmuiden in Holland direct to Newcastle with a drive of approximately 3 hours will bring you to the doorstop of Portnellan. And with direct flights in abundance from most European airports to either Edinburgh or Glasgow there is an easy way to reach your Highland hideaway.
