Holiday Cottage Scotland

Central Scotland & Fife

In terms of its most famous cities, Scotland is often defined by those of the Central Belt and in particular Glasgow and Edinburgh, which dominate the west and east coasts respectively. The Central Belt does not however define Central Scotland, an area which stretches north-south, from Stirlingshire down to Lanarkshire and the Borders.

Stirlingshire is best known for the city of Stirling, and heading eastwards through Falkirk to Fife, marks out a part of Scotland for which the cultural and historic impact on the country as a whole has been truly remarkable. It is a beautiful area besides, with some great beaches and limitless scenic splendour, just perfect for self catering holiday cottages.

There are many aspects of Stirling which make it a popular city to visit but Stirling Castle always tops the list. The city will always be associated with the Wars of Scottish Independence, most notable at Stirling Bridge and nearby Bannockburn, synonymous with battles fought by William Wallace and Robert the Bruce respectively.

The hugely impressive Wallace Monument shares the city skyline with the castle. The town of Falkirk has some notable history of its own, situated at the point where canals intersect the country and where today stands the engineering masterpiece known as the Falkirk Wheel.

Eastwards into Fife and a whole world of new opportunities arise for historical attractions, and for coastal retreats. The Fife towns of Glenrothes and Dunfermline provide the history for sure but in St Andrews, visitors can revel in the wonderful ambience and character provided by a place which is home to the nation's oldest university, which is the world home of golf and which has a beach as impressive as any in the country. Holiday cottages on the coast will open up many leisure possibilities but anywhere in the region is convenient for some of the most popular attractions in Scotland.
